March 1

Maple Tree Tapping - Botna Bend Park, Hancock
Visitors will learn about the process of maple tree tapping and have the opportunity to tap one for themselves.  The event will be held from 10:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m.  For more information, call 712.741.5465.




June 7

Kids Fishing Derby - Arrowhead Park, Neola 
This event is held in conjunction with Iowa’s free fishing weekend, so a license is not required for Iowa residents. All kids 16 and under are welcome to enter our annual fishing derby. All children entered will receive prizes and free gifts. For more information and the time, call 712.485.2295.

June 13-15

25th Annual AMVET’s Antique Show and Walk - Walnut
Get your antique fix in Walnut! This is one of the largest and finest antique shows in the Midwest with an estimated 35,000 visitors. June 28 Carson Jubilee - Carson
Summertime Family Fun in Carson sponsered by the Carson Business-Community Club, City of Carson, and Local Area Businesses.  Events include Kids and Adult games, Variety Show, Volleyball, National Lawn Mower Races, Auto Pushball, 2 lunch stands and don't forget the fireworks! Carter Lake Community Days - Carter Lake

Summer

Pony 13 Zone Baseball Tournament - Hamilton Sports Complex, Carter Lake

Fourth of July Celebration - Avoca

The day events will begin with the traditional Independence Day Parade.  Rides, games, and a talent show will last all day, and

July 5 Jazz at Breezy Hills Winery - Minden

Pottawattamie County Fair - County Fairgrounds, Avoca

July 17-20 Once Upon A Mattress - Macedonia
Grist Mill Fine Arts Council presents this musical romp based on the story of The Princess and the Pea at the McCready Theatre in Macedonia. The kingdom is in turmoil!! No one may marry until the Prince can find a princess his MAMA likes.  Be prepared to laugh and giggle as your favorite Grist Mill Folks take to the stage in Olde English attire. Old Settlers Picnic - Hancock
Hancock’s annual community celebration in the city park adjacent to Botna Bend Park with its excellent camping facilities. Parade, food and beer stands, kids’ events and a softball tournament. For more information, contact Hancock City Hall at 712.741.5665.

15th Annual Antique City Car Show - Walnut

Perseid’s Meteor Shower - Hitchcock Nature Center, Honey Creek
View the Perseid’s Meteor Shower from a Loess Hills ridge top starting at 8:30 p.m. Bring your blankets, lawn chairs and binoculars for an evening of star-studded skies. For more information, call 712.545.3283.

August 16

Real Maple Syrup Pancake Feed - Botna Bend Park, Hancock

August 20-24

Country Music Jamboree - Pottawattamie County Fairgrounds, Avoca
Country music fans can delight in this week long festival of country music. Several entertainers, contests and family fun. For more information, contact Deb Henningsen at 712.482.6220.

August 23

Donia Days - Macedonia
Donia Days’ activities include a car show, parade, buffalo chip throwing contest, kid’s games and firemen’s dinner. Both a teen and adult dance round out the day’s events. For more information, contact Macedonia City Hall at 712.486.2323.


August 30-September 1

Hoo Doo Days - Neola
No small town celebration is more infamous than Hoo Doo Days in Neola! Labor Day weekend events include a teen street dance Saturday night, lawn mower tractor pulls on Sunday and street dance for adults featuring the “Fork in the Road” band. The parade on Labor Day starts at 11:00 a.m. and is followed by midway rides, tractor pulls and a car show. Food and beer stands. For more information, contact Neola City Hall at 712.485.2307.

September Oakland Fall Festival - Oakland
Oakland is reviving and old tradition, their fall festival!  Activities include, tractor show, games for the kids, outdoor open market, and entertainment.  The days events will end with a dinner and variety show.  For more information on the dates & time contact Randi Henderson 712.482.3188.



September 6

Monarch Tagging - Hitchcock Nature Center, Honey Creek
Come and learn more about these fascinating creatures. From 10:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. visitors will have the opportunity to catch and tag monarch butterflies in the park. Nets, tags and refreshments provided. For more information, call 712.545.3283.

September 6-7

Carstens Farm Days - Shelby
The signature event of Carstens 1880 Farmstead is where Iowa farm history comes alive. Enjoy steam engines powering antique threshing machinery, a parade, crafts, entertainment, as well as food galore. The buildings will be alive with demonstrations that will bring back memories for older visitors and teach valuable lessons to the younger ones. HawkWatch Festival - Hitchcock Nature Center, Honey Creek
Join HawkWatchers and keep your eyes on the skies for migrating raptors. HawkWatch festival will include bird activities, hikes in the hills, scheduled programs and refreshments will be served. Last Weekend in September German Heritage Day - Minden

Halloween Hike - Hitchcock Nature Center, Honey Creek

November 16

Eagle Migration - Hitchcock Nature Center, Honey Creek
Come join the Hitchcock Nature Center from 1:00-4:00 p.m. for the annual Eagle Migration. Recognized as one of the Top 5 HawkWatches in the world for viewing migrating bald eagles. November 28-30

26th Annual Christmas Walk - Walnut
Thousands of lights outline the turn-of-the-century storefronts in downtown Walnut and a live towering Christmas tree dominates the brick streets. Sip on spiced cider while shopping in one of Walnut’s many antiques shops or in displays by visiting dealers in this beautiful setting. Horse-drawn carriage and sleigh rides. Special store hours. November 29

Old Fashioned Christmas - Avoca
Celebrate Christmas in Avoca! Enjoy treats, decorations with lights, soup supper, visits from Santa and hayrack rides. Come see the Memory Tree located in the Library. For more information, contact Rhonda Holst at 712.343.6697.

December 3

14th Annual Christmas in Carson - Carson
Carson really shines when the city starts the Christmas season by lighting the traditional luminaries. Soup supper at the Community Building and shops open from 5:00-8:00 p.m. for all to enjoy the Christmas spirit. Santa even makes a visit!
