Sites for Value-Added Agricultural/Dairy Operations
Pottawattamie County’s wealth of agricultural resources and access to biosciences resources within the bi-state area make it a prime location for value-added agricultural operations including dairy.
Western Iowa Development Association in collaboration with the Pottawattamie County GIS Office conducted a comprehensive site location analysis based on a number of land acquisition requirements to identify potential sites for dairy operations. Requirements included: availability of water, highway access, undeveloped area (open space) and parcels greater than 100 acres. All the attributes were used to create a scoring system which was utilized to create a map. The red areas on the map are more ideal for the location of a dairy farm than the blue areas.
Visit the USDA website for the latest data on Pottawattamie County’s agricultural resources. For information on biosciences resources, see the university research and technology resources in the business resources section of our website.
